description:
Distinctive blackish-purple shiny stems. The dark purplish colouring also extends through to the otherwise green leaves, especially in spring. Good Autumn colour. Vigorous grower.

cultivation:
Very hardy and robust. Adaptable to many soils even poorly drained clay.
Prune in late winter, either removing about a third of the oldest stems or cutting back all stems every 3 or 4 years.
