description:
Vigorous, large spreading shrub or small deciduous tree, frequently multi-stemmed. Deep green leaves, turning red-purple in autumn. Rough, flaking, brown bark. Umbels of small yellow flowers in late winter before the leaves appear. Edible, bright red fruit.
Similar in appearance to Cornus mas, but with a somewhat more open habit and attractive bark, it also flowers slightly earlier.
