Similar to the related witch hazels. Sweetly scented, drooping bell-shaped yellow flowers hang from the branches in early spring before the leaves appear. Spreading, bushy habit with slender branches and bright green leaves.

cultivation:
Best in fertile, moist, well drained acid or neutral soil. Prefers part shade. Will tolerate slightly alkaline soils if reasonably deep and fertile.
