description:
Extrovert plant with huge rhubarb-like, bristly, dark green leaves and in early summer, sturdy stems bearing a cloud of small gypsophila-like white, sweetly scented flowers often held 7ft or more above the leaves. The leaves begin to die back after flowering.

cultivation:
Best in reasonably fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Will tolerate poor soils and a little shade.

propagation:
From seed or by division in early spring. Also by root cuttings in winter, using short sections, about 2cm, of thick healthy root and planting them upright in well drained compost..
