description:
Tuberous perennial with long fleshy roots. Heart-shaped, deep green leaves attractively marbled with silver and pale green. Pink to carmine-red flowers with darker markings at the mouths, produced in autumn just before the leaves. Dormant in summer.

cultivation:
May need some protection, best container grown in an alpine house or cool greenhouse. Free draining, humus rich soil. Water moderately when in growth, keep dry while dormant.
