Attractive tree producing edible fruit. Saucer shaped soft white or very pale rosy-pink flowers in spring. Rounded or pear shaped yellow fruits in late summer or early autumn.
Fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun. Fruiting is best in areas with long, hot summers.
May be fan trained against a wall.
If required, prune when dormant in late autumn or winter.
From seed or by hardwood cuttings or layering.
Fruits are use to make quince jelly.
Various medicinal uses including the treatment of sore throats and digestive problems. Use in Chinese medice.
The fruit was once used to make a wine, which was reputed to be beneficial to asthma sufferers.
