Rich green leaves up to about 25cm long, growing from fibrous rooted rhizomes. Hairy stems and leaves. Elegant flowers of white with a pink pouch, in summer.
Needs cool moist to damp conditions and well drained, humus-rich, neutral soil.
Does not normally flower until the plant is 4 or 5 years old.
From seed, can be tricky.
Native to central and north-eastern North America. Quite rare in the wild.
