description:
Small, dense evergreen with leathery dark green leaves. Terminal clusters of very fragrant, small flowers, purple outside and pinky white inside, in mid to late spring and usually again in late summer. Round, fleshy red fruits follow.

cultivation:
Reasonably fertile, humus rich, moist soil, which is neither very acid nor alkaline, in full sun or part shade. Resents root disturbance once established.

propagation:
By semi-ripe cuttings in late summer or early autumn - can be difficult to root.
