Very beautiful tropical tree with spreading branches forming a dome shaped crown. Semi-evergreen bi-pinnate leaves of oblong, bright green leaflets in pairs. Flowers usually orange-red with yellow highlights or may be dark red. Large seed pods follow. Fast growing and flowers from spring to summer..
Any well drained soil in a warm sunny location. Not frost hardy. Will thrive near the sea but may some protection from strong winds. May become fully deciduous in areas with a long dry season. has an aggressive root system and should not be planted too near buildings.
From seed in spring at around 18 to 21°C or semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
Lovely flowering tree for tropical gardens, often grown in parks and avenues.
The bark has medicinal uses and the seeds are used to make necklaces.
