Clump forming perennial or biennial. Mid green leaves up to 12cm, sometimes with toothed edges. Dense leafy racemes of pale cream or fawn flowers with brown or violet-brown veins and paler cream lower lips, produced from mid to late summer.
Well drained, humus-rich soil in sun or part shade.
Used medicinally in the manufacture of heart stimulating drugs.
Found wild in Italy, the Balkans, Hungary and Turkey.
D. lamarckii may be used as a trade synonym but is also a distinct species.
