description:
Vigorous, rhizomatous perennial. Erect stems, reddish-green when young, and lance-shaped to linear-oblong, deep green leaves with red midribs and turning red and yellow in autumn. Heads of very small yellowish flowers enclosed by showy reddish-orange bracts, produced in early summer.
