Rounded, evergreen sub-shrub. Thick branching shoots carry oblong to narrowly lance-shaped, dark green leaves with a pale mid-rib. The foliage sometimes becomes red-tinted in winter. Open umbels of small pale yellow flowers in late spring.
Well drained soil in full sun or light shade. Needs a warm, sheltered location.
Native to the Azores, now very rare and close to extinction in the wild. Subject to conservation efferts by the Oxford Botanic Garden. Plants and seed are available from several sources.
