Upright, clump-forming sub-shrub. Red-tinged stems bear neat foliage of lance-shaped, green leaves, tinged reddish purple when young. Flowering heads with greenish-yellow bracts and red nectar glands, from spring to midsummer.

Prefers moist soil in sun or light shade but tolerates dry conditions.
Cut back after flowering to encourage fresh new foliage.

Self seeds freely.
