Bushy deciduous shrub of twiggy habit with opposite, toothed, lance-shaped leaves. Small bright yellow flowers in early spring on bare branches before the leaves emerge. Not as showy as the cultivated varieties.
Any moderately fertile, moist, well drained soil in full sun or light dappled shade. Easy to grow and not fussy. Prune after flowering, reducing new shoots and cut back some of the old shoots to the base.
Greenwood cuttings in late spring or semi-ripe cuttings in late summer.
Native to Albania and the only species found wild in Europe. Rarely cultivated.
