Slow growing, medium-sized shrub with conspicuous, bottle-brush like creamy white flowers in spring which appear before the leaves. Brilliant autumn colours. Variable in habit and can reach a much greater size (well over 3m) in ideal conditions.

Moist, well drained, humus rich, acid soil in full sun or part shade.

By seed, which germinates only in the second spring after sowing. Alternatively from softwood cuttings or layering.

Shrub border or woodland garden.
