Evergreen, broad bush with glossy evergreen leaves and long catkins - 'James Roof' is the best male form of the common Garrya and has extra long catkins.

cultivation:
Reasonably fertile, well drained soil, preferably in sun or part shade, but will also tolerate quite deep shade. Hard frosts may cause leaf damage. Does well in mild seaside locations.
Can be effectively trained as a wall shrub.


propagation:
Semi-ripe cuttings taken in summer.

usage:
Excellent shrub for winter interest.
