Dense clumps of lobed, slightly hairy green leaves. Freely produced light violet flowers with darker veining, over a long period from late spring through summer.
Well drained soil and in full sun or part shade. Drought tolerant once established, but tends to look wilted then recovers quickly after rain.
From seed or by division. May self-seed vigorously.
Makes effective ground cover
From the Caucausus mountains of Georgia, Iran and northeastern Turkey (not the Iberian peninsula as the name suggests).
