Forms a dense mat or mound of finely divided deep green leaves. Magenta pink to mauve flowers during summer.
Any moderately fertile, well drained soil in a sunny position. Not very hardy and best in a warm or mild location, but plants killed by frost are often replaced by new seedlings. Drought tolerant once established and generally easy to grow in suitable climate areas.
Cut back hard in early spring to keep tidy.
From seed or by division.
Effective ground cover. Rock gardens and border edges, coastal plantings, containers.
Used to make a medicinal tea for the treatment of various ailments such as bladder infections.
