The well know ivy native to much of Europe. Vigorous self-clinging climber and also creates good ground cover. Dark green lobed leaves which become more ovate in shape as the plant reaches its "adult" form. Mature plants produce flowering umbels of yellowish green flowers, developing to purple-black berries. The species is naturally variable in form and has produces many attractive cultivars.
Tolerant of very wide range of conditions, including dry shade. Can be slow growing at first, becoming vigorous once established.
Important as a habitat and food resource in the wild and in the wildlife garden.
