Clump forming deciduous perennial, rather variable in form and flower. Mid-green, pedate leaves with tapering, toothed lobes, hairy underneath. Open cup-shaped, outward-facing or pendant, dark veined, deep reddish purple flowers , often green tinted inside, produced from mid winter to early spring before the leaves fully develop.
