Compact habit with tight clumps of grass-like stiff narrow leaves appearing early in the year. In early summer slender, arching reddish-brown stems bear star-shaped, orange-yellow flowers up to 7cm across, opening from reddish-brown buds. Flowers have a fruity scent.
Moist, well drained, fertile soil in sun or part shade. Grows well in clay soil.
