Branching stems carry numerous glistening orange-gold flowers, about 7.5cm across, with recurving petals, in succession from midsummer to autumn.

Prefers a rich moist soil in sun, but will grow in most soil conditions, including heavy clay and dry soils. Flowering is reduced in shade.
Can suffer damage from slugs and snail, but said to be resistant to rabbits.

By seed or division in spring.

The flowers and flower buds are edible and good in salads. Young leaves and also the roots are also said to be edible when cooked.

An extract of the root can be used as an antidote for arsenic poisoning!
