The flower colour ranges from lavender-mauve to purple and occasionally white. Lanceolate leaves, largest at the base becoming smaller up the stems.
Moist, well-drained soil in sun or part shade. Tolerates poor soil. Replace every 2 or 3 years.
From seed or basal cuttings. May self seed freely in suitable conditions.
Good for meadow and wild gardens, also for cottage-style plantings.
Native wildflower of Southern Europe and parts of Asia. Naturalised elsewhere.
Sometime known as Wild Phlox because of the similarity of its flowering habit, but not related.
