Bulbous perennial forming clumps of grass-like, narrowly linear, bright green leaves, emerging in autumn. Solitary, upward-facing, star-shaped pure white flowers, produced mainly in spring. The flowers are honey-scented and the foliage smells of onions when crushed.

Moderately fertile, humus-rich, moist, well drained soil in full sun. Although hardy, may be damaged by long periods of hard frost.

By seed sown in spring or by division during the dormant period in summer.

Borders and rock gardens.
