Rhizomatous perennial with evergreen fans of strappy arching leaves. Beardless lavender blue to violet-purple flowers, white and yellow at the petal bases with purple veining. The flowers are mostly produced in early spring but can bloom anytime between autumn and spring.
Best in dappled part shade and moist, well-drained soil in a position sheltered from hard frosts.
The rhizomes should be left partly exposed when re-planting.
From seed or by division of rhizome clumps.
Better suited to damper and shadier positions than Iris unguicularis.
Native to Eastern Turkey and Georgia.
