Anemone-like, tuberous-rooted, carpeting perennial. Basal leaves are usually twice-ternate, being divided into 3-lobed leaflets. Small 5-petalled, white flowers in March and April. The flowers are very similar to the rue anemone, Anemonella thalictroides. Becomes dormant in summer with new leaves often appearing in autumn.

Moist, well drained, humus-rich soil in part shade.

From seed or by division.

Woodland gardens and other moist, shady areas.
