description:
Slow-growing alpine with small spiky rosettes of unusually short wide leaves with fine silver hairs, strongly tinted dark brownish red in good light. Yellow flowers in summer. Rosettes slowly divide rather than produce offsets.

cultivation:
Full sun and on poor, sharply drained soils. Drought tolerant and may be rooted into small rock crevices and stone walls.

propagation:
Cut apart and replant divided rosettes. Slower and more difficult to propagate than common house-leeks.

usage:
Alpine gardens, sinks and other containers.
