Rhizomatous perennial forming neat clumps of grass-like foliage. Erect stems carry short spikes of drooping tubular flowers that open bright orange-red, then fade to yellow giving a two-tone effect. Flowers in late summer. Moderate size and shorter growing than most varieties.
Reasonably fertile, moist, well drained, preferably sandy soil in full sun. Tolerates a little light shade. Very hardy and drought tolerant.
By division of mature clumps in spring.
