Very vigorous rhizomatous perennial forming spreading clumps of erect stems. Opposite or whorled, softly hairy, lance-shaped deep green leaves and whorls of cup-shaped yellow flowers in mid and late summer.
Moist to wet soil in sun or part shade. Grow well in damp clay soils and will tolerate full shade if consistently moist. Easy and adaptable.
Spreads freely and my become invasive in some situations.
From seed or by division, which is very easy.
Best suited for wild or semi-wild gardens.
Native to Central Europe and Asia Minor. Naturalised elsewhere, sometimes seen growing along ditches and roadsides.
