description:
Very slow growing, ultimately making a large rounded bush. Covered in spring with small star shaped fragrant flowers, opening from grey-hairy buds. Late frosts can damage flowers.

cultivation:
Moist, reasonably fertile, humus-rich soil, preferably acid to neutral. Will thrive in heavy clay and tolerant of atmospheric pollution. Best in a sheltered position in sun or part shade.
If required, prune unwanted or crossing branches when dormant in autumn or late winter to very early spring.

Rare in the wild, found in a small area of Japan.
