description:
Small, upright deciduous tree or large shrub with slender branches and obovate mid-green leaves up to 15cm long. Abundantly produced fragrant, white flowers in spring, even on quite small, young plants.

cultivation:
Not too fussy about soil, moist, reasonably fertile, humus-rich, acid to neutral soil is ideal. Will thrive in heavy clay and tolerant of atmospheric pollution. Best with some protection from strong winds, in sun or part shade. Flower buds may suffer damage from hard frosts.
If required, prune unwanted or crossing branches when dormant in autumn or late winter to very early spring.
