Large prickly shrub with erect branches and long pinnate leaves with toothed, dark green leaflets. Large dense clusters of fragrant yellow flowers produced late autumn to winter. Blue-black berries later. Deeply fissured bark on older stems.

Well drained soil in sun or part shade. Not very frost hardy and best in mild areas.
