Low growing perennial with arching stems and alternate, closely set, sessile leaves, which are deep green and broadly ellipitic to lanceolate, about 10cm long. Small nodding clusters of creamy white flowers in late spring. Red berries may follow. Spreads by creeping rhizomes.
Likes deep, rich , moist but well drained soil. Neutral to acid. Shady position. Will grow in quite deep shade under trees.
From seed or division in early spring.
