description:
Rather tender shrub with thick hollow stems and very attractive, aromatic foliage of pinnate, toothed, grey-green to bluish grey leaves. In mild climates produces large spikes of burgundy red flowers in summer.

cultivation:
Not very hardy and needs winter protection in cold areas. Will often survive temperatures of just below zero, though top growth may be damaged. Moist but well drained, reasonably fertile soil in full sun.

propagation:
From seed, basal or softwood cuttings in late spring or early summer. Also by separation of rooted suckers in spring.

usage:
Luxurient, exotic looking foliage. Can be grown in a large container.
