Marginal aquatic with vigorously creeping rhizomes, forming large floating mats of 3-palmate leaves. Erect racemes of short-lived, fringed, white flowers, pink in bud, in late spring and summer. Will spread indefinitely in still or slow moving water.
Plant at a water depth of between 15 and 25cm, in muddy pond or lake edges or otherwise in aquatic planting baskets. Best in full sun to encourage flowering.
From seed in containers standing in water, or by division of rhizome sections.
Good marginal for large ponds and lakes. Useful for disguising hard edges.
Used in traditional herbal medicine for rheumatism and arthritis.
Widely distributed across the Northern Hemisphere and especially in Europe. Found at the edges of ponds, lakes and slowly flowing rivers.
