Spring flowing bulb. 4 to 6 small scented flowers are produced on each upright stem, pure white perianth petals contrasting with the bright red-orange cups. Late March and April flowering.
Best in moderately fertile, well drained soil. Needs reasonable moisture while in growth early in the year but dormant bulbs will survive drought and hot summers. Sun or part shade.
Plant bulbs at one and half times their own size or a little deeper. Allow foliage to die back naturally after flowering.
Separate and replant bulb offsets.
Good for naturalising.
