A very tough shrub for warm climates. Erect to spreading habit with lance-shaped, deep to grey-green leaves. Attractive, usually pink flowers last throughout summer. Many cultivated varieties available.
Well drained, poor to moderately fertile soil in full sun. Tolerant of extreme heat, drought and salt. Needs winter protection in cool climates and dislikes excessive winter wet.
By seed or semi-ripe cuttings. Can also be air-layered.
A classic plant for Mediterranean type climates.
All parts of the plant are poisonous.
