Low growing, creeping habit, forming mats of small fleshy green leaves. Small greenish white flowers in June, followed by prolific red-orange berries, sometimes almost covering the plant.

Humus rich, gritty, moist but well drained soil in sun or part shade. Only just frost hard and best grown under glass or as a house plant in cool areas. Prefers temperatures between 14 and 17°C. Needs good light and ventilation when grown as a house plant and reduced watering in winter. Feed when berries are forming, but over-rich conditions promote leaf growth and reduce flowering.

By division in spring.

House plant.
