Good foliage of soft green to greyish green leaves, sometimes with a coppery flush. Large round terminal buds open in late April or May to attractive single dark rosy pink flowers with golden stamens around red centres. Later produces red pods that split to reveal blue-black seeds.
Moist, well drained, deep, fertile soil in a shady position.
From seed or by division.
Suitable for light woodland and shady borders.
