Forms a round-topped tree 9-12m high. The clusters of large foxglove-like flowers provide a showy display in May, providing the buds are not damaged by frost. Sticky green seed pods ripen to release numerous winged seeds.

Fertile, well drained soil in sun. Very tolerant of atmospheric pollution.
Young plants may be pruned to the ground in spring and the resultant suckers reduced to a single stem. Such is the vigour that the shoot will reach 2.5-3m in a season and clothe itself with enormous leaves up to 0.6m or more.
