description:
Large upright evergreen, taller than the cultivars. Tough, strap-shaped, deep green to greyish green leaves, sometimes with a bronzy sheen. May form a very large clump in time. Orange-red flower held on spikes up to 3m in summer, pollinated by birds. Erect seed pods containing small black seeds.

cultivation:
Moist, well drained, fertile soil in full sun or light shade. Established plants will tolerate dry conditions. Best in mild locations or a sheltered position but grow well in coastal areas.

propagation:
From seed or by division

usage:
Excellent focal plant and widely used for landscaping, giving somewhat exotic appearance.
