Vigorous, suckering shrub, often rather sprawling in habit, with upright stems of opposite, ovate, deep green leaves. Panicles of tubular, pale red, pendulous flowers, yellow inside the mouths, produced over a long period in summer..

Best in moist, well drained, fertile soil in full sun but tolerant of a range of conditions. Top growth may be damaged by hard frosts and in any case, in cool climates, it is best cut back hard at the end of the season or in early spring.

From stem cuttings or rooted suckers.
