description:
Clump forming bamboo of gracefully erect and arching habit. Canes are green the first year later becoming mottled dark brown/black and finally shiny jet black. Small leaves. In the UK growth is fairly slow at first, becoming quicker and producing taller, thicker stems as the clump establishes.

cultivation:
Moist, well drained soil in sun or part shade. Likes a bit more sun than some other species.
The lower branches may be trimmed off to emphasise the attractive canes.

Sought after ornamental, very popular with garden designers.
