Dense bushy shrub or may form a small tree. Glossy dark green leaves are held in whorls. White, very fragrant flowers in summer, later becoming creamy-yellow. Woody fruiting capsules that split to release the sticky orange seeds.

Well drained soil in sun or light shade. Tolerates drought and hot conditions. Thrives well near the sea.

Makes a good wall shrub.
Very drought resistant and used extensively for hedging in Southern Europe.
