Called the drumstick primula because of its dense spherical heads made up of many flowers and held on top of a tall stout stem. Typically mauve, but there are variations including white, red and purple. Basal rosettes of oblong to spoon-shaped, finely toothed, pale to mid-green leaves, white-mealy underneath
Easily grown in moist, well drained, humus rich, neutral to acid soil in sun or part shade.
Named varieties must be propagated by root cuttings, otherwise from seed.
Good for damp rock gardens, peat beds and growing near water.
