Classic wildflower of damp meadows. Umbels of nodding yellow flowers in spring, held on long stalks above the rosettes of wrinkled basal leaves. Flowers a bit later than primroses.
Moist, reasonably fertile soil in full sun. Dislikes dry conditions.
By seed or division.
Medicinal herb, the flowers have a sedative action, used to treat insomnia and nervous problems. The roots are also used in the treatment of bronchitis and arthritic conditions.
