Semi-evergreen or evergreen perennial with rosettes of wedge-shaped, toothed, deeply veined leaves and lilac, pink, purple or white flowers.
Adaptable to many conditions but prefers moist, well drained, fertile and humus-rich, neutral to acid soils in partial shade. Will tolerate full sun if the soil does not dry out.
By seed or division of clumps. In favourable conditions, will self-seed freely.
Perfect for open woodland and shady banks.
Native to the Balkans, Crimea, Armenia, Caucasus and Turkey.
