Half-hardy annual. Thick, hairy, sticky stems and rounded, shallowly lobed, heavily veined leaves. Attractive trumpet-shaped flowers of pink to mauve-purple, often with reddish blotches, followed by distinctive, curving horn-shaped, fleshy seed pods, which split open when ripe.

Fertile, well drained, moist soil in sun.

From seed, sown in early spring at about 21C.

The partially ripe seedpods are eaten as a vegetable. Leaves are also edible when cooked.
