description:
One of the first bamboos introduced to Europe and one of the most commonly planted. Quite large narrow glossy green leaves on thinish canes. Clump forming but may also spread to make large thickets.

cultivation:
Reasonably fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Tolerates deeper shade quite well. Very hardy.

Can be invasive in ideal growing conditions.

Effective as individual clumps but also makes a good evergreen hedge. Bold foliage effect.
