Open clump-forming, rhizomatous evergreen. Ovate, bristly, mid-green leaves with white spots. Flowers throughout spring, opening pink, becoming reddish-violet and later ageing to blue.

Moist, well drained, fertile soil. Best in part shade.
Cut back to ground level in autumn. Divide in spring or autumn. Mulch in autumn and spring. Can be prone to mildew if they become too dry.
